One of my pet peeves are people wearing "The Rosary" as a fashion statement. I feel that in recent times it has become the latest trend among our society. Growing up Catholic I was taught the significance of the beads and what they stood for. When I wear them, it is to show my faith and not to keep up with the latest trends. If a person chooses to wear it who am I to tell them not too? But they should at least educate themselves first.
I was doing a google search and came upon this post, I definitely agree with everything she is saying!
When did the rosary become a fashion statement for young black males? Well shoot just for anyone. So I was looking at my older brother Tennie's facebook status and it made me want to write this blog. Currently he has seen dudes walking about campus at N.C. A&T with the rosary around their necks. So what people deciding to be Catholic all of a sudden. No I don't think so. They are just wearing them as an accessory to their already "fashionable" outfits. The dudes who walk around with with skinny jeans, little plaid shirts, hats, and non prescription bifocals. WTH... I just dont get it. They talk about how they be having sex with them on and smoking weed with them on. Like it's a good thing to do. I feel this is SO disrespectful to Catholics, especially with me being one. I was raised knowing what each bead meant and to cherish the rosary, to use it when praying and nothing else. It has been brought back into the fashion world, which is not of my likings. It was brought into fashion by Madonna in the early 1980s and people today are starting to wear and sell them again in todays era for a fashion statement. UHHH NOOO STOP DOING THIS!. When I was searching for pictures to show you guys I found pictures of D&G's rosary necklace. OMG... and it was probably selling for around $500 dollars. I wanna know how all you guys feel about this because as you can see I am a little upset about the things young black males are doing when they don't know what the beads even mean. SMH.
Starting with Madonna in the '80s and continuing to present time. I usually keep my beads hanging from my rear view mirror and at one point my step-brother asked my mom if he could have them! She replied no of course since they were mine. It made me realize that there is lack of individuality and understanding. "Don't follow the pack, make your own path
